Margarita Torremocha is a Professor (Profesora Catedrática) of Modern History at the University of Valladolid and the director of the Cátedra Felipe II.
She has expertise in the history of universities (which has resulted in seven monographs and over thirty articles and book chapters), formal and informal sociability (brotherhoods, professional associations, etc.), and royal festivities. For over a decade, she has focused her work on the social history, emphasising the role and protagonism of women through their appearance in judicial records. From this perspective, she has examined judicial practices - from manuals to procedural reality - legal cultures, transgressions against behavioural models, and the social customs of the Ancien Régime in Castile.
Prof. Dr. Torremocha Hernández has been the Principal Investigator of three research projects funded by Spain’s MICINN:
Justicia y mujer. Los tribunales penales en la definición de una identidad de género. Castilla y Portugal, 1550-1800” (HAR2012-31909);
